Symposium Innovation through Research: Solutions to Societal Challenges

On Monday, October 14, 2024, the Open University symposium 'Innovation through research: Solutions for Social Challenges' will take place on the campus in Heerlen. During this event we will explore the crucial role that research plays in exploring, addressing and providing solutions to current and pressing societal challenges. You are very welcome to attend! You can also participate online.

About the symposium

Climate change, increasing discrimination and exclusion, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. These are all examples of major themes that characterize current developments in society. These social challenges are receiving increasing attention from scientists. What can we learn from the latest research and how can social science contribute to these complex problems?

The program consists of four keynote speakers and poster presentations by PhD students from the OU, focusing on current topics such as encouraging an inclusive society, digitalization and the energy transition. Experts from within and outside the OU will share their insights and breakthroughs and show how innovative research can stimulate positive changes and contribute to societal challenges.

This symposium is free of charge for all employees and students of the Open University. The working language is English. The keynotes can also be viewed online.
