Dr. Leyla De Amicis
 

Leyla is a Researcher at the University of the West of Scotland. She is a Psychologist particularly focused on the areas of Social and Developmental Psychology. She obtained her degree at the University of Padua (Italy) and her PhD at the University of Sussex (UK) with a PhD thesis on the role of emotions in children’s responses to intergroup contexts. She has worked on many research projects in multidisciplinary teams at different Universities and covered various roles in charities in several countries. Leyla is interested in investigating children’s and adults’ intra- group and inter-group behaviour, prejudice-based bullying, bystander intervention, and the effects of media on the public reaction to minority groups. Since January 2018 Leyla has worked on the GATE-BULL project. She has contributed to the project development of the mixed- methods assessment of determinants of prejudice- based bullying and the creation of the intervention’s material. She has carried out the implementation of the project in Scotland. Leyla has recently disseminated the project in the one-day event 'Stop Bullying: Discover the hero inside you' within the ESRC Social Festival 2019 and contributed to the 'Building empathy' stage of the 'Choose Respect' campaign carried out by the Scottish anti-bullying service Respect Me Scotland.
