Open science

Open Science stands for a different way of dealing with research, publications and data. The core of open science is knowledge sharing and collaboration. Research, data and output should be FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable). But open science requires also a different system of Recognition and Rewards.

The Open Universiteit supports, like all Dutch universities, the Dutch National Programme Open Science.

Ambitions for 2030

In December 2022 the Nationaal Programma Open Science published an ambition document and Rolling Agenda titled 'Open Science 2030 in the Netherlands'. This document updates and amplifies the earlier open access policy (Nationaal Plan Open Science 2017) and describes the goals of the Dutch scientific community for 2030 in the field of Open Science. It contains strategic goals, requirements and a 'rolling agenda' for the implementation of this ambitious programme..

In 2023 Open Science NL received the commission to implement this programme, under the governance of a 'regieorgaan Open Science' created in September 2023.
