WEKIT paper on acceptance AR and wearables wins prestigious award
Immersive learning is a rapidly growing field and the WEKIT project team are amongst its leaders in terms of research and practice. A recent paper entitled “Technology Acceptance of Augmented Reality and Wearable Technologies" won the Best paper award for Fridolin Wild, Roland Klemke, Paul Lefrere, Mikhail Fominykh and Timo Kuula at the 3rd Annual International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network held in Coimbra on 26-29 June 2017.

Trials and acceptance

This paper explores technology acceptance of Augmented Reality and Wearables based on the recent set of WEKIT trials in three pilot industrial areas, namely aviation, medicine, and space. Researchers found that that respondents in these pilot areas generally enjoyed and looked forward to using these technologies because they were intuitive and easy to learn to use and they liked working with them without feeling addicted. The technologies were still seen as forerunner tools, with some fear of problems of integration with existing systems or vendor-lock. Privacy and security aspects surprisingly seemed not to matter, possibly overshadowed by expected productivity increase, increase in precision, and better feedback on task completion.
