Better, faster and more effectively
Eric Kluijfhout, one of the members of the project team, is happy about this acknowledgement of the value of the project. What is innovative about RAGE? 'Developers of serious games all use different development tools , different programming languages, different delivery platforms. And they all start from scratch. RAGE developed a range of reusable and interoperable components that all developer can 'plug in' into their game. For example 'role-playing' or 'emotion detectoin'. RAGE developed these components – over 50 of them. Developers of games can download them for free and integrate them in their game. In this way they can make better games in less time and more cost-effectively'.
Inspired by our own experience
The Open University of the Netherlands has 35 years of experience in distance education. Early in the nineties the institution developed their own learning games: ‘interactive confrontation with the profession’. Internet was in its infancy, so the games were delivered by laser discs and cd-rom. Developing Interactive learning games to acquire and practice professional competences has been an important activity ever since. The international RAGE project was inspired by these activities and experience. The output of this project is available for all research institutions and gaming studios in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
